The Red Mountain AVA was established in 2001. It is a sub-appellation of both the Columbia Valley and Yakima Valley AVAs. It is located on the far east edge of the Yakima Valley AVA. Nearly 1,200 acres are planted with vineyards in this 4,040 acre area. There are more than 15 wineries in Red Mountain and many more source their grapes from the region. The primary grapes grown in this region are Cab Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Syrah.
This route has some hills (it is a mountain, after all). But they are all extremely manageable with the assistance of an eBike. While most of the roads are lightly traveled, there is a short portion with some traffic. Don't let these things daunt you. It is a very pleasant ride with gorgeous views and amazing wine.
